English as a Second Language

Welcome to English as a Second Language at TCC

English as a Second Language (ESL) courses are offered on the Virginia Beach campus of TCC. Both day and evening classes are available, and ESL students can choose the days and times that are most convenient for them. Please carefully read through the information on this website to understand how to become an ESL student at TCC.

Before you enroll, you should ask yourself this question: Do I have enough time to attend class AND complete homework assignments? ESL students typically have three or more hours of homework each week for each class they take. As students move into the higher level courses, the amount of homework increases. Consider all your personal responsibilities (work, family, etc.) and then think honestly about how much time you have for studies.

Look at the current Schedule of Classes to see the days and times that classes are offered.

Below are some common questions new students have. Click each question to read the answer.
