What do I need to do to graduate?
Students must apply to graduate using the online Graduation Application form.
Does it cost anything to graduate?
There is no graduation application fee.
Does the graduation application need to be submitted by a certain date?
Answer: Yes, there is a Graduation Application Deadline for each term. Please review our Graduation Application Deadlines. When you complete the application you will receive an email to your TCC email account and this is your acknowledgement that you applied.
Can a student who is graduating in August attend the commencement ceremony in December?
Yes. If you submitted a graduation application for summer and have completed the requirements to graduate you can participate in the December commencement.
Will I receive any information about my graduation status and the commencement ceremony?
Yes. Once you submit your application for graduation an email will automatically be sent to your TCC email account confirming your application submission. A status letter will be emailed to you approximately 6-8 weeks after the application deadline. Students participating in the commencement ceremony will be sent a detailed letter informing them about ceremony related information approximately 4-6 weeks prior to the commencement ceremony as well as an email with the same information. All information pertaining to the commencement will be sent to you via your myTCC email account.
When will I know if I did everything I need to do for graduation?
You can obtain a degree audit by going to your myTCC account. If, after reviewing the degree audit, you need further assistance, please see a counselor or email email@example.com.
When will I receive my diploma?
Diplomas are mailed to students approximately 6-8 weeks after all degrees/certificates have been certified by the Office of the College Registrar. At Commencement, students will receive a diploma cover with a message from the College. If your graduation date is:
December: Your diploma will be mailed in March
May: Your diploma will be mailed in July
August: Your diploma will be mailed in October
Diplomas are printed and mailed using the diploma name and address we have listed for you in your myTCC account. Be sure to update your information in SIS.
In the event you need to reorder a replacement diploma you may do so by completing the Request for Replacement Diploma Form. Replacement Diploma Form must include the following:
- Your name
- Your TCC SIS number or Social Security Number (SSN)
- Your Date of Birth
- Your Date of Graduation (Month and Year)
- Mailing Address to which the replacement diploma should be delivered
- Your signature

I received a regret letter stating my degree requirements were not met; now what?
The letter will indicate why you did not meet graduation requirements. You will need to meet with a counselor for additional assistance. Once you have met your graduation requirement(s) you will need to submit a new Graduation Application. Please see our Graduation Application Deadlines.
When do I request my final official Tidewater Community College transcript showing my date of graduation and the degree I was awarded?
You may request official transcripts at any time. However, make sure to indicate HOLD FOR DEGREE if you want your transcript to reflect your degree information. Request a Transcript
